Touch Me Not - Cover Reveal

TOUCH ME NOT, a New Adult Romance by USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR, Apryl Baker, releases this September through Limitless Publishing!

 ✰ ✰ SYNOPSIS ✰
A past tragedy has left Lily James burdened with a devastating secret…

Since the death of her twin sister, Lily can’t bear to be touched. Not accidentally, not casually…and certainly not intimately. This makes it impossible for her to confess to her best friend Adam Roberts that she’s in love with him. She can’t give him the sort of relationship he needs, so she watches in silence while he plans his wedding with someone else.

Enter Nikoli Kinkaid, the campus manwhore…

Nikoli is a self-proclaimed connoisseur of women, and he wants to add Lily to his list of conquests, but she wants nothing to do with him—until he makes her an offer she can’t refuse. He’ll teach her to enjoy human contact again, giving her a chance to win over Adam, while Nikoli uses all his considerable charm to seduce her.

But Lily raises the stakes…

Lily loves cars. Her late father was a racer, and she grew up under the hood of a car and on the racetrack. Nikoli has a limited edition 1970 Plymouth Barracuda she covets, so she informs him the terms of their deal also require he not sleep with anyone for six months. If he does, she’ll win the car. If she surrenders and ends up in his bed, his beloved ’Cuda is his to keep.

In an intricate dance of control and surrender, a reluctant friendship becomes something more. Lily begins to crave things she never believed she could, and Nikoli realizes there is more at stake than his reputation.

If Lily overcomes her phobia, will she crave Adam’s touch as she’s starting to crave Nikoli’s?
Or will she only find pleasure from the touch of a semi-reformed manwhore?

 ✰ ✰ ✰ MEET THE AUTHOR: APRYL BAKER  ✰ ✰ ✰
So who am I? Well, I’m the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn’t love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.

Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there’s always someone to tell your mama you were seen kissing a particular boy on a particular day just a little too long. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled “Lord Margrave’s Deception.” I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters.

Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my niece and nephew and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce…lol.

I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

Alex walked in carrying groceries. “Still haven’t gotten through?” She stopped in front of her and arched an eyebrow when she saw a glass on the coffee table. It was a martini glass with an olive swimming in clear liquid. “Is that what I think it is?”
Andy stifled a groan. Alex with her rules of no-alcohol in the house was backed by the equally uptight owner, Lori. She figured that with Lori gone and Alex spending more time with Jack that she could get away with breaking a few rules.
“What do you think it is?” She asked sweetly. She lifted the glass and sipped, batting her eyelash at her.
“Alcohol,” Came the curt reply.
She lifted a shoulder before downing the rest of the drink. The warm liquid hitting her empty stomach. “It’s a martini. Want one?”
“No thanks, dear,” Alex replied with the same false saccharine tone, “I typically try not to get wasted before breakfast.” She finally ventured into the kitchen to put up her groceries. Andy followed and watched her careful put everything away.
“Alex,” she wailed, looking at the packaged sugars and processed carbs in front of her. “I told you I’m on a diet.” Her stomach lurched at the peanut butter and the jelly Alex was now putting up.
Alex frowned. “So? I’m not on your no carb, no sugar, alcohol only diet, thank you very much!” She put some goldfish crackers, Milano cookies and popcorn in the pantry. “The alcohol isn’t really helping you. It has calories, you know.”
“Beer has calories, but liquor doesn’t. What did you think of Miles?” She asked, trying to take her mind off of the foods she couldn’t have and equally cursing Alex for her genetics.
“Have you ever seen a skinny alcoholic? I took a nutrition class and one gram of alcohol equals seven calories. The fact that you’re not sleeping also damages your metabolism, thus causing weight gain,” she paused and regarded Andy. “I already told you what I thought of Miles. He’s a pothead and there’s something about him I don’t like.”
Andy stood in tiptoes to open a cabinet on top of the refrigerator. She reached and pulled her vodka bottle down, immediately scrutinizing the bottle. She frowned at the nutrition label and smiled sheepishly, “I don’t know how many grams are in a drink.”
She caught a package of red and white out of the corner of her eye. “Hey, you said you’d stop drinking coke!”
Alex opened the fridge door, causing Andy to take a step back. She put the 12 pack into the fridge and closed it. She took the vodka bottle from Andy and tried to read the label.
“And he’s not a pothead,” Andy paused, “anymore. He just drinks occasionally.”
Alex widened her eyes at her and gave her back her bottle. “You know when I say these comments to you, sometimes they’re a joke. I don’t expect them to be real at all.”
She turned and finished putting up the rest of her groceries. “Are you sure you’re alright hanging out with these alcoholics who used to be druggies?”
“They are not alcoholics!” She pointed out. Andy hated these conversations. Anything she told them about, the self-righteous Alex would bombard her with insults and lecture her about hanging out with the ‘wrong crowd.’ You would think she still lived with her parents with all these rules she was supposedly breaking. She tuned out Alex who had turned back around to face her, opening and closing her mouth like a fish.
“Are you listening to me?” Alex demanded, shaking her briefly out of her thoughts. She just nodded, but didn’t reply. She was tired of explaining herself. Isn’t it a normal rite of passage for young twenty-something college girls to lose their good girl persona and just have fun, be wild and free? She blinked when Alex suddenly swung around and marched down to her room.
“What?”
She turned when she reached her door. “I don’t like talking to someone who is clearly not paying attention to me!”
Andy rolled her eyes, “I’m sorry, but I’ve heard it all before, Alex. You give me the same speech practically every weekend.” And each one with more gusto than the last. “I just asked what you thought of Miles.”
“And I answered. You already know how I feel about him. You’ve been asking me for days now. No, I don’t think he’s right for you or that he’s changed. He’s still using you just like last time.”
“No, this time, it’s different.” The words sounded hollow, and she knew it. She needed to sit down and have another drink. She turned around and sat on the couch, opening the vodka bottle and pouring some into her martini glass.
“Have you two been on a date, yet?” Alex sat beside her, wrinkling her face as she watched Andy drink the contents. “And I don’t mean meeting at the bar, or his house or going to a party type of date. I mean having dinner and movie type of date.”
She shifted trying to look causal, but the hesitation already answered Alex’s question. “Well, that type of dating is out dated, anyway.” She flipped her blonde locks behind her back. “I’m already in a relationship with him and we don’t need to go on a date because we’re already dating.” I think.
Alex narrowed her eyes at her. “Do you know how delusional you sound right now?”
“We can’t all pray and have the perfect guy right there waiting for us the entire time. Most of us have to go find them on our own!” Andy managed to spat out.
“Well maybe that’s something you need, Andy.” Her voice softened. “Why don’t you pray about the perfect guy? You are worth it and this guy isn’t worthy of you.”

Bittersweet by Jennifer Labelle: Review

Three books in three weeks and the theme is: hot, hotter, HOTTEST
There are some books that I’m instantly taken with and before I know it, I’m crying along with the character and cheering her on as she’s putting on the proverbial big girl panties and showing the world what she’s got! Bittersweet is such a book. The second I read about Jenna’s fears and her sadness and her love for her son and her husband, I became so consumed with making sure she got the happy ending she deserves.

So consumed in fact, that I may or may not have been short with my husband as I read on about Jenna’s life. I won’t spoil anything for you, dear reader, but I will say that I wouldn’t have handled Jenna’s situations as classy as our protagonist. No, I would go straight up Carrie Underwood and beat the crap out of my husband’s “beloved” 1973 Ford Truck.
Anyway, the book opens with Jenna and her husband in a terrible car accident. She wakes up and finds him gone. This was fun to read, let me tell you! I’m over here weeping and my husband and toddler is giving me crazy looks about crying over my tablet.

A year passes in the book and Jenna finds herself on a trip to Ireland. She meets a sexy Irishman, Brady, who makes us believe that having a second love is possible for us. Brady, man! What a swoon worthy character. I don’t particularly read books with eroticism. I mean, I’m not opposed, mind you. For all the hoopla that was 50 Shades of Grey, I really just wanted a great romance story with characters who kept their clothes on the whole story. But there wasn’t any forced or gratuitous sex scenes that made me want to shower after reading it. The characters made love and I felt so intrusive to be in their presence.
I’m telling you, I was REALLY into this book!

And oh, the plot twists and turns! I can usually figure out how a book is going to end about six to seven chapters in. I was amazed and amused that I was off and “figured it out” somewhere past the middle. But regardless of the many twists and turns, I loved being along for the ride.
This book will definitely be on my list to rotate and read again in the future….except, I’ll try not to be as emotional….or at the very least, not read in front of my husband and kid!

EXCERPT:

“Tyler, wait.” She was breathless, and self-consciousness swept through her as he undressed her. Her body wasn’t the same since the accident. She was thinner from the horrible hospital food and being in a coma. She had scars from her surgery, and she was still tender in other spots, even though she didn’t look half as bad as when she’d first come to.

 "What is it, Jenna?”

She blushed and felt a little silly all of a sudden. Since when had she ever been shy with him? The answer was never. “I’m different now,” she whispered. “With the scars, it’s probably not going to be very pretty to look at.”

He didn’t answer. Instead he continued to undress her until she stood before him completely nude. “Come with me.” He moved her in front of a long mirror and lifted her chin so she was forced to look at herself. “You’re beautiful, Jenna.”

His lips were close to her ear, and his breath was warm and soothing. It gave her a chill as she leaned into him. “I’m glad you think so.”

“You’re trim.” He continued trailing his hands from her hips up to cup her breasts. “And perky, perfect. God, Jenna, your breasts are just right the way they lay in my hands.” He tested their weight in each as he fondled them, stroking his thumbs across her hardened peaks.

"Tyler, don’t stop.” Breathless, and weak in the knees, she leaned into his embrace while he teased and tweaked her nipples. She reached back to stroke him, but he moved to stand in front of her instead.

Starting with her feet, he gazed up her entire body with lust. Once he reached her eyes again, he said, “The scars are still healing and barely noticeable. You’ve been through hell, and you’re still so damn sexy.”

Igniting Ash by M.A. Stacie

http://www.amazon.com/Igniting-Ash-M-Stacie-ebook/dp/B012BTPCW8/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1438878629&sr=1-1&keywords=igniting+ash
Igniting Ash is a story about overcoming our past, accepting the scars that stay with us and realizing that a little light and love into our darkness saves us. The book starts with a simple kind act that Emma bestows on Asher. An act that we would learn later, changed his life.

Asher’s story moved me. I could feel his suffering, his defeat, his complete distrust of people and knew that he knew every wounds by name. Where he was the dark, Emma is the light. She gives him a little ray of hope every now and again that slowly seeped into his darkness. There is pushing and pulling; a tug of war of emotions and I found myself tearing up at the thought that there are people out there with stories far worse than Asher and most of them will never meet another kind soul like Emma.

I didn’t grow up rich but I was still pretty privilege and completely sheltered. People like Asher didn’t (and don’t) exist in my world. If they did, as awful as this sounds, I would have turned my back and ignored him. And that’s pretty much how it’s been for his life, growing up ignored by people who turned their backs to him; people who shouldn’t have been the cause for his pain and his suffering. Kids like Asher and Gabe would break my heart, but I’m not as strong as Emma or as patient enough to try to chip down the fortress they built themselves.

Igniting Ash is a quiet read. The story moves along in its wonderful pace, pulsing and speeding up at the right moments and slowing down enough to let you catch your breath. It was a privilege to read the interworking of Asher’s mind and be humbled and in awe. And after all that he went through, every single light that Emma shared, he began to accept that he was worthy of being loved and being ignited in every single possible way.

Excerpt for The Dating Intervention

Excerpt 1:

“What Josie’s trying to say is that you always choose the wrong guys. To be honest, I’m not even sure I know what your system is. Was. Whatever. What is it?”

“It’s an informal system.”

“Are you talking to us or the table?” Josie asked.

“The table. You guys are bitches.”

The girls laughed, which broke the tension enough that Delaney responded.

“It’s a system that allows me to select between three and five men, each of whom fulfill a different need. I.E. a sex god, a philosopher and an adventure hound.”

Summer rolled her eyes and Delaney continued. “This system ensures I have a constant flow of social engagements and, more importantly, at least two backup men if something, you know, fails to work out with one of the men.”

Summer nodded. “So tell us what happened, exactly. How’d you end up single for the first time in years?”

“Hasn’t she always been single?” Josie said.

“Josie! Seriously!” Delaney felt herself spluttering.

Was it true? Delaney dug into her memory. Yes, she was always dating someone … but no, she was never truly with a man. A tiny voice piped up inside her head: Maybe you do have issues! She silenced it. Who were Summer and Josie to have such strong opinions on her dating life? They’d both been off the dating scene for years.

“Well, you have,” Josie said. “When is the last time you were in a committed relationship you actually cared about?”

“And speaking of that,” Summer said, “have you ever really thought about the future? I mean, do you plan to just keep dating several men at once, perpetually?”

Instead of answering, Delaney picked up her Guinness bottle again. Still empty. Her last real relationship had been a long time ago. At the time, she thought they were committed to each other and she thought of nothing other than their future. That turned out to be a complete waste of energy. Not to mention the heartache involved.

The Dating Intervention by Hilary Dartt - a Review

http://www.amazon.com/Dating-Intervention-Book-ebook/dp/B01240L6RO/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1438556153&sr=1-1&keywords=the+dating+intervention

The Dating Intervention is another tongue-in-cheek “girl meets boy” love story. Right after reading Click, Date, Repeat, I didn’t think I would like another romance story involving finding online matches and although the beginning was a bit slower paced than I would have preferred, I enjoyed reading about our protagonist, Delaney Collins.

In the first book (Click Date Repeat - completely diff author and not related to this book, at all), the world of online dating was new and Chloe’s friends scoffed at the idea of meeting men online but in the Dating Intervention, it was Delaney’s friends that brought up the subject and set up her online profile. Where I can relate to Chloe’s parents and her cultural world view about things, I can totally relate to Delaney’s attitude about needing a backup plan to ensure that no hearts would be disappointed or broken. Where Chloe needed assurance from friends and the Universe that where she was at in life, and who she was with, was where she thought she needed to be; Delaney was your “screw it, fine, whatever,” type of woman. She accepted disappointment and met it with a system that worked for her. Delaney doesn’t have as many dates as Chloe did, but she did have a couple of fun dates and even went to a speed dating thing! In the world of fiction, these two should meet and compare notes!

Delaney had a fail proof system of having three men at one time to fulfill her. There was the sexy boyfriend, the adventurous boyfriend and the boyfriend who mentally challenged her. My husband could fall into one of these needs at any given time, sometimes, mostly when I need him to, but three different men to meet our needs? If we only wanted sexy evenings, have someone whisper sweet nothings in our ear, call up boyfriend number 1, our Latin lover. If we get tired of the cheesiness and want to just canoe, rock climb, push our bodies physically, try boyfriend number 2 today. If we’re tired and want to relax at a coffeehouse and argue about existentialism – is that a thing? – call boyfriend number 3.

I got exhausted thinking about how her relationships actually worked. I mean, do you just go down the list? If one is busy, call the next one? But luckily for me, it opens with Delaney being dumped by all three boyfriends. On the same day. And you thought you were having a bad day, right?

Of course, her friends step in and help her through the breakups and came up with a plan called the “Dating Intervention.” Delaney would give up her “freedom” and relinquish her love life to her friends. They set up the rules, line up the men, the dates, when to kiss, who not to judge and how to accept that our life at thirty four doesn’t include being a bartender and eating take outs.

I truly love stories that have realistic depictions of our friendships with childhood friends. I love Summer and Josie and their love for Delaney. We only really see our limitations but our lovely friends want so much for us and can see the potential in the mess we are presenting to the world. There is a little bit of judging, a little bit of back talk and hurt, but what friendship doesn’t? They were rooting for her and in turn, made this mess of a character worthy to root for. I still am friends with my childhood best friends and I appreciate the honesty and feedback I get from them. I loved how the women are related and were in different stages in their lives: the married with no kids (Josie), the married with FIVE kids (Summer) and our lovely single protagonist, Delaney. In my early thirties, of course, I can relate to being single once upon a time and out with girlfriends, and being married and carefree and then turning into a family of three.

This is a fun beach read with some sexy scenes and I truly enjoyed getting lost in Delaney’s little world, especially if it included some sexy men in our life!
